Final Phase Begins
April 3, 2012 -
The Sydney Tar Ponds Agency is reporting that, the third and final phase of cleanup work began April 3rd. This final phase of Solidification and Stabilization is on the North Tar Pond site closest to Sydney Harbour. At the end of this season, cleanup work on the Tar Ponds site will be completed.
As well, the Agency's Ambient Air Monitoring Program (AAMP) has returned to a six-day National Air Pollution Surveillance (NAPS) schedule. Since December 2011, AAMP samples were collected on a 12-day NAPS schedule.
As of April 2nd, the Agency's real-time odour monitoring program has restarted.
Monitoring odour and air quality is a critical component of the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency's goal to inform the public of air quality around the Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens sites.
